Prologue 


The stranger followed a trail of red blood in the snow until he reached the body of a young woman wearing a red kimono but no shoes. There was fresh blood on her hands. Her right hand was still curled around the pink bound hilt of a short katana.

When the stranger stooped beside her, he caught the scent of strawberries rising off her long, brown hair.

“Call me Chucky,” she murmured in her sleep.

A strange name for a young woman.

The stranger lifted her out of the snow.
